Challenge
What they were solving for.
A smart-home platform that has been running for 12+ years carries the weight of its history: legacy device protocols, customers who never want to update firmware, and an installer network that needs the same UI to keep working. Continuous evolution without breakage was the brief.
Approach
How we built it.
We modernized the cloud backend incrementally — strangling the legacy monolith with new services, introducing a device abstraction that supports old and new protocols, and replacing the installer dashboard with a current React frontend. New device types were onboarded behind feature flags so installs never broke mid-rollout.
Outcome
What shipped.
The platform now supports new product lines without forking the codebase. Installers report faster commissioning, and customer-side firmware updates roll out gradually without flooding support channels.
